2009 ~ The annual picnic was cherishable. We went to tibetian camp, Bylakuppe and Cavery Nisargadhama ~ 7 students from Kaliyuva Mane are taking up 10th Standard Board Exam. Preparations are on full swing ~ The festival of lights - deepawali was celebrated with pomp and glory. Volunteers and children had a great time ~ Two german volunteers from ICDE (Inter Culture Dialogue Exchange) are staying here at Kaliyuva Mane as resident volunteers. They have become an integral part of our family :) 2008 All 40 children and the 2 ladies who do the cooking will be medically insured under STAR health - True value insurance scheme. The premium for this year (and hopefully for the subsequent years!) will be borne by Mr. Raghavendra Sharma who works for LnT Valdel, Bangalore. Thanks to Mrs. Radhika Mohan of STAR health insurance for helping us out. She had insured 8 children for 2 years during the beginning years of KM. ~ Holi – The festival of colors was celebrated in Kaliyuva Mane with due zest and zeal. Even the Gods seemed to be in festive spirit as they showered us all with holy (holi!!!) water. Literally every one in sight was doused in colors, not even one the passers-by were spared. Thanks to Kotresh, Prince, Chetan and team for bringing to us an ecofriendly Holi! It was a memorable day as colors filled our faces, hands, eyes, ears and mouth; we wished they fill our lives too. ~ Narayana, Mahesh and Pallavi were given prize money in appreciation of their roles as mentors. They had a tough job at hand, to mentor children who were below average in their Kannada writing skills. They were given this task as they are extremely good at writing Kannada. And they did a great job. The children they mentored came from 15-20 mistakes per page to 1 -2 mistakes and lesser in a week’s time. The honorary guests on the day of foundation laying Sri.Lakshminarayana and Sri. Vasudev Bhat was overjoyed as they presented the ‘cheques’ to the discerning ‘faculty’ – truly KM style! ~ Mrs. Radhika Mohan who visited Kaliyuva Mane was very happy to see the field work that children have undertaken. Sunita showed her around the place proudly presenting cabbage, chilli, carrot and other vegetables grown by children. She earned Rs.20 by selling her coriander and chillies to Mrs. Radhika. She was very reluctant to take the money but we convinced her that she should use it as an investment and grow better vegetables. Just goes to show the commitment and righteousness imbibed in the children, they truly are little angels! ~ On February 17th, all the inmates of Kaliyuva Mane were invited as special guests for a function organized by Abyudaya Mahila Samaja, JP Nagar, Mysore. The kids sung "Buddhi ilveeno maleraaya..." and "Naavu gedde gelteevi....". We thank the committee of Abyudaya Mahila Samaja for this invite and their kind hearted support . ~ On February 20th, members of Spurthy Ladies Wing (Builders Association of India) and Inner Wheel Club paid a visit to Kaliyuva Mane. Dhanush and Mahesh recited Bhagavad Geeta, Shwetha danced to Apta Mitra tune and some kids performed Maari Kunita (A folk dance). The visitors donated a band set to the school. We thank you for fueling our journey. ~ Volunteers are conducting English, Science, Music and Dance classes. If you wish to join them, please call up 9886165220. This is the best time to prove your dream of becoming a teacher. ~ Prince and team volunteered for laying the tiles of open class room. Bored of the cubicle life, these engineers wanted a break. And they completely enjoyed the work. A simple example to prove where there is a will, there is a way. ~ Volunteers of Divyadeepa had setup a stall in Sasken Communications Ltd, Bangalore. Chetan and Pooja did a commendable job by taking care of the stall. The more than expected turnout proves that the employees of Sasken, though they might be hard core techies, they have a kind heart to help the opportunity deprived. We thank the management and employees of Sasken for this opportunity. ~ Sahay (a group of like minded from Juniper Networks) have come forward to sponsor 5 students of Kaliyuva Mane for the year 2008. ~ Volunteers celebrated new year 2008. Kids had a great time with choclates and pastry :) 2007
~ Christmas was really fun @ Kaliyuva Mane. ~ Volunteers from Karthavva celebrated Deepavali (Diwali) with pomp and glory. More than 500 lamps lightened the campus. Kids had a rocking time
~ "Kaliyuva Mane Chinnara Bank" was inagurated on Saturday 24th November 2007 in the gracious presence of Swami Nithyasthanandaji, the President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama and Mr. Srikanta Gundappa, Theater Veteran, Mysore. ![]()
~ On November 1,2007 Kannada Rajyostava was celebrated with pomp ad glory. Santosh had played the role of Sangolli Rayanna , Legendary freedom fighter of Karnataka. On this occasion Rotary Midtown have sponsored tricycle for a physically challenged student. ~ Scientists from prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore have helped Kaliyuva Mane by providing Instruction on Demand software. ~ Research team led by Matthew Kham from University of California, Berkerly visited Divya Deepa. ~ Vidyaranya kannada koota, Illinois, USA have sponsored Slide for children's play area. Mr. Surya Narayan Rao innagurated this. ![]() ~ Child prodigy Master Kishan(Guinness World Record holder as the Worlds Youngest Director Of A Professionally made Feature Length Film At the age of 9 years) have visited Kaliyuva Mane, Kids had a great time! :)
~ On April 29th 2007, Mysooru Unplugged (Fund Raiser for Kaliyuva Mane) was held in Mysore. It provided a platform for the citizens of mysore to involve themselves for a noble cause. ~ Dr. Janardhan and Dr. Aparna Sridhar(USA) conducted health check up camp in Kaliyuva Mane. Kudos doctors for the help. ~ On Jan 7 2007, Dhanush (a student of "Kaliyuva Mane") has bagged consolation prize in "bhagavadgeeta recital" competition held in Mysore. 2006 ~ HELP, a group of Indians from USA have visited Divya Deepa and they have contributed whole heartedly for this noble cause. ~ Rain water harvesting project has been partially completed ~ As part of our community development program a 'Speech & Hearing screening camp' was organized in association with All India Institute of Speech & Hearing Rotary Mysore Midtown on 17th February 2006. 180 villagers were the beneficiaries. ~ On 6th March 2006, a cataract screening camp was held in association with Rotary Mysore Midtown & MRC Mysore. 50 villagers participated and cataract operation was performed on 15 patients free of cost. ~ A volunteer group has been formed to empower Kaliyuva Mane - alternative school run by Divya Deepa ~ Rotary mid town, Mysore had donated notebooks to kids of Kaliyuva Mane ~ As a part of community development program,a workshop on collage making was organized in Divya Deepa. ~ On 15th August 2006,Independence Day was celebrated in Divya Deepa with the association of Rotary Midtown, Mysore ~ "Kaliyuva Mane" has been feautured in Times of India. ~ On Nov 1 2006, Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated in Divya Deepa |
