Kaliyuva Mane

Kaliyuva Mane[A kannada word which means "Home for Learning"] is an alternative school started by Divya Deepa charitable trust, with an aim to transform the lives of underprivileged children. Children who fail to reach the desired educational standards due to illiteracy, ignorance and poverty of parents, lack of infrastructure in the village schools are given a new hope of life, by providing value based education including yoga, arts, crafts, music, drama, environmental awareness programs.

At present 42 children(22 residential and rest are day scholars) are studying in Kaliyuva Mane. They have found a new life all together.

An approach for non-formal education

By definition of a non-formal school, each focus area incorporates various songs, stories, games, and dances. These activities are generated from various different sources and aim to maintain a student's interest while imparting education. Thus, story telling, play sessions, and activities become a catalyst for learning.

Kaliyuva Mane has chosen the above curriculum because of its functionality. It provides a holistic approach to a student's development, maintains a student's interest, and imparts valuable education. Kaliyuva Mane does not replace the value of government schools. Rather, it helps to motivate a child to get interest in formal education. Students are encouraged to take up S.S.L.C examination for which relevant training will be given for a significant period of time.

Curriculum
The curriculum being followed by "Kaliyuva Mane" is one of its kind and flexible based upon the child's interest and response. Curriculum cuts across formal barriers and enables a student to educate him or herself using naturally-available resources has proved to be a unique, but effective education method. The teacher generally plays the role of an elder brother or sister. He or she plays, sings, educates, and empowers his or her children through non-formal education. The influx of new ideas filtered through familiar channels helps make learning dynamic and fun.

The curriculum which has been developed by Kaliyuva Mane is guided by the following principles:
    1. Uphold the dignity of the individual with Love, Care and Empathy
    2. Nourishing the innate talent in child
    3. Develop good character
    4. Making education fun.

Health Education

Kaliyuva Mane currently follows a health education curriculum to complement its basic literacy initiative. While the primary focus remains literacy, basic health education and preventive health care have a tremendous impact on the child's fitness. Yoga is used as an effective tool for making children stronger and healthier. Regular health checkup and awareness camps are also held to create awareness about health and hygiene.
